6 trucks to drive across key freight corridors, paving the way for a net-zero emissions future
In a landmark development towards India’s vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070, Tata Motors, the country’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has launched the first-ever trials of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks.
The historic flag-off ceremony was graced by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, and Mr. Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors, alongside other distinguished delegates from the Government of India and Tata Motors.
Leading the Hydrogen Mobility Revolution
Tata Motors, awarded the tender under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, reinforces its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions through this pioneering initiative. The 24-month trial involves the deployment of 16 hydrogen-powered trucks with varying payload capacities, equipped with both Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2-ICE) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) technologies. The trucks will be tested across major freight routes like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Surat, Vadodara, Jamshedpur, and Kalinganagar.

Powerful Hydrogen Truck Lineup
The flagged-off trucks represent Tata Motors’ comprehensive approach to hydrogen mobility, including:
- Tata Prima H.55S (H2ICE)
- Tata Prima H.55S (FCEV)
- Tata Prima H.28 (H2ICE)
With an operational range of 300-500 km, these vehicles are engineered for sustainable, cost-efficient, and high-performance transportation. The trucks feature the premium Prima cabin, advanced driver-assist safety features, and cutting-edge technology to enhance comfort, reduce fatigue, and improve productivity.
