BMW has officially introduced the latest edition of the all-electric iX Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), bringing enhanced driving performance, significantly increased range, and a refreshed design. This next-generation model reinforces BMW’s leadership in electric mobility with cutting-edge technology and efficiency improvements.
Extended Range and Enhanced Performance
The new BMW iX boasts a remarkable WLTP range of up to 701 kilometers (435 miles), setting a new standard in the electric SAV segment. This increase in range is the result of advancements in BMW’s eDrive technology, including improved performance electronics and optimized wheel bearings and tires, leading to an 8% increase in efficiency.
The lineup includes the BMW iX xDrive45, xDrive60, and the high-performance M70 xDrive. Power outputs have been boosted across all models:
- iX xDrive45: 300 kW (408 hp), 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds
- iX xDrive60: 400 kW (544 hp), 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds
- iX M70 xDrive: 485 kW (659 hp), 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds
New battery technology increases energy capacity, with the xDrive45 now featuring a 94.8 kWh battery, while the xDrive60 and M70 xDrive models retain their 109.1 kWh and 108.9 kWh batteries, respectively.
Refined Exterior and Sporty Design
BMW has introduced several design enhancements for the iX, giving it a more athletic and refined look. The revised front grille features a more intricate design with contour lighting (standard on the M70 xDrive), while the adaptive LED headlights now incorporate new vertical elements for daytime running lights and turn indicators.
A newly available M Sport package adds powerful styling elements, including redesigned air intakes and vertical reflectors at the rear. Customers opting for the M Sport Pro package will enjoy dark M Shadow Line headlights and exclusive 22-inch M light-alloy wheels. The M70 xDrive model further enhances its presence with black exterior mirror caps, an M-specific grille, and exclusive design elements.
New paint finishes, such as Arctic Race Blue, Dune Grey, and Tanzanite Blue, provide customers with more customization options, along with the BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey and Frozen Pure Grey metallic finishes.
Efficient Charging and Smart Connectivity
BMW has significantly improved the charging capabilities of the iX. The xDrive45 now supports DC fast charging up to 175 kW, while the xDrive60 and M70 xDrive can charge at 195 kW, allowing for rapid energy replenishment. AC charging is available at up to 22 kW.
The iX also introduces an improved route optimization system, which helps drivers plan trips with precise charging station availability, estimated charging times, and costs. The Plug & Charge Multi Contract function streamlines the charging process, while BMW’s Connected Home Charging allows for solar and cost-optimized charging at home.
Advanced Technology and Comfort Features
The new BMW iX incorporates the latest version of BMW iDrive with Operating System 8.5, providing an intuitive digital experience through the BMW Curved Display and voice control with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Additional digital services include video streaming and in-car gaming.
Driver assistance technology has also been upgraded, with Driving Assistant Plus now standard, featuring Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, front collision warning, and Parking Assistant. The Highway Assistant offers Level 2+ autonomous driving, allowing hands-free driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph). A Parking Assistant Professional enables remote parking via smartphone.
Inside, the iX delivers progressive luxury with a sporty edge, featuring newly designed M multifunction seats, premium microfiber/Sensatec upholstery, and an optional Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof. The M70 xDrive includes additional features such as Integral Active Steering and solar control glazing for improved energy efficiency.
A Benchmark for Electric Luxury SUVs
With a class-leading range, enhanced performance, and a sophisticated design, the new BMW iX continues to redefine the electric SAV market. Set to launch in spring 2025, it will be available in key markets, including the USA, UK, and Germany, with production continuing at BMW’s Dingolfing plant.
